Syntheia Product Update: October 2026

There have been seven releases since mid-September. Here are the highlights:

  • The big one first — Syntheia Compare in Outlook keeps getting better. In August it moved into your inbox. In September it learned to compare attachments. In October, it now compares up to 20 documents at once, guesses what you meant to compare, and sends the blackline back into your email.

  • Syntheia Curate learned to read your investor spreadsheets and connect investor data to each document.

  • Syntheia Compare got 4x to 6x faster on some tasks. e.g. it can compare 50 documents in under five minutes.

New Features

Syntheia Compare in Outlook — Bulk Comparison

  • Pick one base document and compare it against up to 20 others at once. Each comparison comes back as its own result, and the add-in opens a result list so you can move between them.

Syntheia Compare in Outlook — Smart Suggestions

  • Drop in an email or document and the add-in suggests the most relevant email to compare it with, weighing subject, people, recency and thread, or a matching document from your Inbox, Sent Items or workspace.

  • The file picker gained Select All and an email attachments tab.

Syntheia Compare in Outlook — Send Results by Email

  • Attach a comparison result to your current draft, or a new email, as a DOCX or PDF.

  • Copy selected marked up text into the email body with insertions and deletions preserved. No more screenshots of tracked changes.

Syntheia Compare in Outlook — Recent Activities and Open in Portal

  • Every comparison is saved to Syntheia, so you can reopen it any time from Recent Activities in Outlook, or in the portal.

  • A new Open in Portal button takes you from the Outlook preview to the full portal view, and the change highlighting now looks the same in both.

Syntheia Compare in Outlook — Navigate Between Changes

  • Previous and next buttons jump between changes in the preview, and a change list drops down from the change counter.

Syntheia Compare — Microsoft Sign-In

  • Sign in with your Microsoft account. Invite codes survive the sign-in, and trials and subscriptions work the same way in the portal and in Outlook.

Syntheia Curate — Investor Import from Excel

  • Upload a spreadsheet, such as the investment tracker you already keep, map its columns to Syntheia's investor fields, and create every investor in one step.

  • Dates import correctly for users west of UTC. To everyone in the Americas: this one's for you.

Syntheia Curate — Non-Substantive Provisions Filter

  • Filter the Master Side Letter by substantive and non-substantive provisions, so boilerplate like dates and execution blocks can be shown on its own, selected together and deleted in one step.

  • Nothing is ever removed automatically, and Clear Filters brings back the full view.

Syntheia Curate — Paragraph Reference and Vehicle Columns

  • Exports can include a Paragraph Reference column with each provision's leading number (for example 11.2).

  • The Word export and the MFN table Excel export can add a Vehicle column naming the investors linked to each provision's source documents.

  • The investor Excel export now carries admission and signed status and vehicle columns, so it can double as a client-facing tracker that matches what's on screen.

Smarter Search

  • Search now dynamically blends keyword matching with meaning-based matching, so an exact defined term and a loosely remembered concept both land.

  • Underneath, search moved to a new vector engine that rescores against full vectors. In our testing, document recall went from 0.81 to 1.00.

Plainer App Names

  • Apps are now named after what they do. DOCX Compare is now Compare two docs, Multi-doc Comparison is now Compare many similar docs, and Clause matching grid is now Clauses heatmap.

  • The default Home apps are now Compare many similar docs, Compare two docs, Build Compendium, and Create Fund.

AI Assistants via the Syntheia MCP Server

  • Connect Syntheia to more than one assistant (Claude and ChatGPT, say, or Claude Code and claude.ai) without the second connection knocking out the first.

  • Assistants can open a whole document or its index at any time, rather than falling back to search and risking an answer from the wrong agreement.

  • Uploading documents through MCP no longer kicks off a comparison you didn't ask for. We checked this across 130+ automated assistant sessions, because "it worked on my laptop" is not a test plan.

  • Signing in with SSO goes straight to the authorize page. The consent page now states which account is signing in and which workspace becomes the connection's default, and Deny takes you back to your assistant.

Improvements

Speed and scale

  • Big comparison reports — reports with 40 to 50 large documents no longer run out of memory. A 50-document comparison now finishes in under five minutes.

  • No more blank rows — rows that are blank in every document are gone. DOCX exports still rebuild those paragraphs from the source, so exports are unchanged.

  • Matrix zoom — zooming far out for a bird's-eye view of the Matrix no longer lags.

  • Large documents — segmentation of large documents is much faster, and very large PDFs are now read a page at a time instead of all at once.

Failures that say so

  • A comparison or compendium waiting on a document that fails processing now shows that it failed and why.

  • Documents with no text to extract, like blank scans, now fail with a clear status instead of holding up everyone else's documents.

  • PDFs our text parser can't read now default to OCR instead of failing.

Word and PDF fidelity

  • Character styles — bold, italic and caps applied through Word character styles (think BETWEEN: and BACKGROUND:) now survive into comparisons, the document reader and reconstructed DOCX files. Text set to all caps through styles or document defaults now shows in capitals too.

  • Font sizes — text that inherits a document's default font size is no longer read at half size. 12pt is 12pt again.

  • Phantom formatting — ordinary text is no longer extracted as bold or italic because of the formatting on Word's hidden paragraph mark. Going the other way, a bold Schedule 1 heading stays bold even when its text has no formatting runs of its own.

  • Tables in searchable PDFs — each table line now holds all of its own words, and a character on a shared cell edge belongs to exactly one cell. MFN forms and other table-heavy documents get cleaner structure as a result.

  • Numbering — sub-clauses like (ii) are no longer dropped when the line before contains a cross-reference.

  • Preview pages — the comparison preview, in Outlook and in the portal, now uses each document's own page size and margins, so page breaks, page counts, headers and footers sit much closer to Word.

Exports

  • File names — every export now follows one naming scheme: comparison exports start with "Compare of" and the base document's name, compendiums start with "Compendium", fund exports use the fund name, and dates read yyyy-mm-dd. Names are capped at 80 characters, and files in a zip no longer overwrite each other when names clash.

  • Compendium and MFN Word exports — family titles now stay on the same page as the content that follows them, and tags are listed one per line. Thank you to the clients who told us.

  • Compendium sources — the Source column in Compendium Word and Excel exports lists each document once, and only the documents whose clause text actually matches.

  • Merged markups — the merged DOCX markups export now lives in the Export modal as its own option. If a comparison includes documents ingested before Word markups were supported, the dialog explains this and offers to re-ingest them.

Comparison and Compendium

  • Zip uploads — a zip with a stray Excel file or macOS metadata in it now imports the documents it can and skips the rest, instead of failing the whole upload.

  • Single-report comparisons — no more tab strip when there's only one tab. The grid gets that space back.

  • Edit conflicts — report saves are checked against the latest version on the server. If a colleague saved after you opened the report, you're asked to refresh rather than overwriting their work.

  • Embedded Compare — customers who embed Compare two docs in their own app get the upload-only experience back: results open inline, nothing is saved to the workspace, and the portal header stays out of sight.

Outlook

  • Duplicate uploads — uploading a document that's already in the workspace asks whether to use the existing file or upload a copy, just like our web portal.

  • Workspace changes — new workspaces and permission changes show up within seconds, no reload needed.

  • Recents — opened items are greyed out, long names scroll into view, and the Recent list shows the same status and document count as the portal.

  • Contrast themes — the add-in now renders properly in all four Windows contrast themes.

Around the portal

  • Personal workspace names — personal workspaces are named after their owner (Jane Smith Workspace) instead of User 1234 Workspace. (Jane is delighted)

  • Search — the Documents search finds documents by ID as well as name, and the toolbar search now works like the search start page: press Enter, or use the new + button, to add a value.

  • Comments — the portal and Smart Drafter share one comments component, so comments look and behave the same in both. Edit is hidden on other people's comments, and delete follows your role.

  • Recent list — the version column is gone; each report's status and number of documents are in.

  • Menus — the Home dashboard counters now look like the links they always were, the quick-actions picker matches the main menu (Create Fund included), and button names in User Settings match the main menu.

  • Emails — notification emails now come with logos, icons and updated signatures.

  • Clause search API — v2 results now include each clause's path of parent clauses, with numbers and titles. The legacy API accepts its similarity cutoff and ranking options again.

Bug Fixes

  • Exported Word files no longer end in .docx.docx. One extension per file, as nature intended.

  • Find Similar Documents now shows real relevance scores, rather than a 0% for every result.

  • Publish to Compendium now shows its progress and ignores repeat clicks. Previously, each enthusiastic click created its own compendium. It also starts much sooner.

  • Swapping base and modified documents back and forth no longer fills Recents with duplicates.

  • Merged markup exports of comparisons with exactly two documents now download, instead of always failing.

  • Documents made only of plain paragraphs are no longer refused for markup export.

  • Compare two docs no longer fails on long file names that contain dots.

  • Clauses dragged from the Leftovers panel land where you drop them, not at the end of the report.

  • Splitting a clause into sub-clauses keeps the other clauses in its variant.

  • Remove Color only appears when there's color to remove.

  • Filtering a compendium no longer shifts clause positions in families and merged variants.

  • Clear filters on an empty results screen now clears every filter, and filtering by document adds a chip to the applied filters bar.

  • Comments on leftover provisions are now included in the exported Master Side Letter.

  • The MFN table's Delete Group dialog shows the group name in normal quotation marks instead of garbled symbols.

  • The Document Grouping Excel export has its Groups column title back.

  • Bulk delete confirmations use the right singular or plural ("Delete 5 variants?").

  • Table scrollbars and column dividers in Document Grouping and the Matrix behave at any zoom level.

  • The Documents grid's No results message no longer slides under pinned columns.

  • The workspace menu no longer widens while you search.

  • The Smart Drafter document reader has been rebuilt to match the portal's and is working again.

  • On the Super Comparer login page, forgot password works again, the fields are larger, confirm password has a show-password toggle, and the resend button unlocks after a countdown.

  • In Outlook: dragging emails in works in Outlook Classic; Swap stays available when you reopen a comparison from Recents; the layout fits small screens; and a file you chose to reuse is labelled as coming from the Workspace.

  • Dragging attachments into the Outlook add-in works again, including from another email in the same conversation. We'd love to take the credit, but this was an Outlook bug, and Microsoft fixed it.
