Syntheia Product Update: August 2026

The big one first — Syntheia Compare now works in Outlook. This is where files are sent and received — and now, users can compare emails and documents while they are inside Outlook. You can preview changes to docx files, automatically pair matching ones together for comparison, see changes between emails or within an email, and apply red and black changes into an email — all without leaving your inbox.

Other changes and updates in this cycle mostly focus on adding depth. For example:

  • selecting any two provision in a master side letter to compare;

  • introducing a dark theme across the whole web portal; and

  • improving the MFN distribution workflow in Syntheia Curate.

New Features

Syntheia Compare in Outlook

  • Compare is now available inside an Outlook add-in, for reviewing and redlining documents and text straight from emails.

  • Compare two emails, or any two text snippets from emails, apply tracked changes to a whole email in one click, and preview changes within tracked changes.

  • Drag and drop content from your Outlook into the Compare side panel to select them for comparison. The panel stays open as you move around (this only works if you have an enterprise license to Outlook — Microsoft doesn't allow pinning for personal accounts).

Personal API Keys

  • Generate your own API key from Settings, under a new Developers tab, to call the Syntheia API.

Dark Mode

  • The web portal is now available in a dark theme, covering home, users, workspaces, comparisons, funds, documents, provisions, search, MFN election analysis, upload and settings.

Improvements

  • MFN DocuSign sending — MFN forms are now sent for signature from the MFN distribution tab. This also removes the long wait time that used to follow clicking “Send” in the fund view.

  • Clearer names and labels — the investor action "Delete MFN Distribution" is now "Cancel MFN Form", and "Head document" and "Tail document" in the DocuSign modal are now "Cover note" and "Execution pages".

  • Document identifiers in the master side letter — each document in the master side letter can be tagged with a unique color, so users can easily see the source document for a provision.

  • Comments in the master side letter — comments have been redesigned, and clauses in the “Leftovers tray” now show their comment count with a View Comments action that opens inside the tray.

  • Matrix text selection — text in the comparison matrix can now be selected vertically by column, so users can copy multiple terms from the same document while in the grid view.

  • Home dashboard — the Documents, Comparisons, Compendiums and Funds tiles now refresh automatically after a successful upload, instead of needing a page reload.

  • Compare selections — Pick any two provisions in a master side letter, and see a blackline of the differences between them.

  • No results from a search — searching provisions with no matches now shows a proper no-results screen, with a Back to Search button that returns you to your original search.

  • Fewer unnecessary redlines — similar neighbouring paragraphs are now merged before matching in Syntheia Compare, so two documents that split the same content differently produce noticeably cleaner blacklines.

  • Arabic and mixed-language documents — documents that mix Arabic and English are now extracted in the correct reading order word by word, rather than reversing the whole document. Arabic text saved with unusual encoding is also no longer mistaken for gibberish and sent to OCR unnecessarily.

  • Interface polish — export icons are now consistent across the portal, list-page toolbars line up with the table below them, modal titles use one standard size, and the Save and Cancel buttons in the Compendium provision editor are right-aligned.

Bug Fixes

  • Adding a variant to a collapsed family now expands that family for you

  • Downloading the markup of unusual comparison no longer returns an error

  • Reopening the Report Comments panel no longer keeps a clause highlighted from before — a clause is highlighted only after you click View Source

  • Fixed extra paragraph breaks in reconstructed Word files

  • Fixed missing content in automatically generated documents

  • Fixed tabs being dropped after clause numbering, which glued the number to the clause text and duplicated numbering in reports

  • Fixed an error that could stop segmentation on documents with unusual list markers

This release is fully backwards compatible.

Coming Soon

MFN distribution status

  • MFN distributions will distinguish forms sent with DocuSign from those exported and sent manually, let you update the status yourself, and lock it once a form is signed.

Clause cross references

  • References from one clause to another will be detected automatically and linked, so you can follow them from the clause itself.

Rearranging grid columns

  • Columns in tables can be reordered manually by users.
